Yvonne Sørensen

Yvonne is a clear, practical and solution-driven lawyer with a strong focus on employment law and international HR matters.

Yvonne read law at Leiden University and spent eight years in the employment law practice of NautaDutilh, followed by two years at Loyens & Loeff in its wage tax and employment law group. In 2005 she founded her own firm.

She completed the Dutch postgraduate programme in employment law (PALA) and PALA-plus, and qualified as a mediator in 2017. Since then she has worked as an MfN-registered mediator alongside her legal practice.

Yvonne specialises in dismissal law, including the dismissal of statutory directors, in international employment relationships, and in employment law advice on reorganisations, mergers and acquisitions. She acts for regional and national hospitality groups as well as internationally listed companies, hospitals, housing corporations and SMEs, and advises CEOs, CFOs, COOs, statutory directors, managers and employees. She has extensive experience mediating disputes about working together and about parting ways.

She is a member of the specialist associations VAAN and VRAA, and regularly publishes columns and case annotations on employment law. Yvonne serves on the boards of Vrienden van het CHIO and the Rotterdam Mediators Association, and lives in Rotterdam with her husband and three children.

Karlijn Kapel
Senior associate

Karlijn Kapel

Karlijn combines a law degree with a background in economics and has advised on Dutch employment law at Sørensen since 2014.

Karlijn studied at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she earned a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Employment Law alongside a Bachelor of Economics and Business Economics.

She joined Sørensen in September 2014 as a legal assistant and went on to qualify as an attorney with the firm. In 2019 she completed the Dutch postgraduate programme in employment law (PALA) cum laude.

Karlijn is a member of the specialist associations VAAN and VRAA. She lives in Rotterdam with her husband and son.

Martina Bernard
Junior associate

Martina Benard

Martina holds master’s degrees in both employment law and corporate law, and joined the Sørensen team in 2023.

Martina studied at Erasmus University Rotterdam. After her Bachelor of Laws she completed the selective Master of Employment Law, cum laude, as well as a Master of Corporate Law.

During her studies she built up substantial practical experience at law firms large and small, including international employment law practices. She joined the team at Sørensen in 2023.
